Day After Thanksgiving Hike

November 17, 2009 Leave a Comment

Join us for a fun filled experience.  The Piedra Blanca’s ( which means white rocks) was a playground for the Chumash Indian children and their familys for hundreds of yearsIMG_2050-Piedra Blanca.  It is a stunningly beautiful area.  We will seek and explore  many of the canyons and visit several Chumash cliff art sites.  We encourage you to bring the whole family.  We will meet at Nordhoff H.S. parking lot at 9am, Friday November 27th.  We will car pool to the trail head. The actual hiking distance is about 3 miles but we can go farther or just hang out and explore, it’s your choice. Dress in layers as it can be chilly in the morning and warming up as the rocks heat up.  Bring a lunch, plenty of water and a camera. There are so many fascinating rock shapes to play in and around. There are a few caves to explore as well.   Suggested donation  is $20 for adults, kids are free.  This is a dog friendly hike as well.  For more info contact Robert & Susan @798-2810 or email  robert@goojai.com

Matilija Falls Hike

October 29, 2009

Sunday,July 22nd.

img_0733 Please join us on our First annual David Bury memorial  Hike into the Matilija Canyon.  We will honor our friend David Bury by visiting one of the places he truly Loved…Matilija Falls.  We will  hike to  Swimming Holes and Majestic Water falls.  This scenic trail follows the beautiful Matilija Creek.   This time of year the temperature can be unpredictable so dress in layers.  There are several river crossings with boulder hopping along the way so we categorized this hike as one of our NO WIMP HIKES.  This means, no kids or dogs, (really tough) unless they are hardy trail kids/ dogs.  (This time of year the sand and rocks heat up and can burn the bottom of dogs feet.)  Please contact us if you have any questions concerning your ability to do this hike.  The approximate distance is 10 miles out and back.  Although this hike is challenging it is one you won’t want to miss.  Absolutely Beautiful!

We meet at Nordhoff H.S parking lot in Ojai 8am, July 22nd then carpool to the trail head.  Plan on at least 6-8 hrs.

Secret Lady Bug Trail Hike

October 22, 2009 Leave a Comment

lady bugs2Saturday, November 14th.

We will begin our hike on the north face of Pine Mountain, just north of Ojai. The elevation is 6,400 ft. and it may be chilly at the start. We meander beneath the ancient pines overlooking the Cuyama Bad Lands. Then we find ourselves descending into the oak trees as the view widens out over the valley and canyons below us. Next we take a secret trail back into the pine trees to an abandoned camp site with a spring. Here we will witness the millions of lady bugs clustered on the ferns and trees.  A perfect spot to  enjoy the moment and take a lunch break. This is a very rare and special place.

Since poaching of lady bugs has become so widespread we ask that you keep the location a Secret.  Dress in layers, bring water, sack lunch, sunscreen, hat, camera, all the normal stuff. There is a drive of about 1 & 1/4 hours to the trail head.  If you choose to drive, you will need to gas up before.  The views are awesome on the drive, a perfect ” road trip“. We  meet at Nordhoff High parking lot in Ojai at 8:30am and carpool up. This is a dog and youth friendly hike but please remember with the drive and lunch this Hike will take about 5 + hours.

Price for this hike is $30 per person or $50 per couple.  Any questions contact Robert Evans at 805-798-2810.
