North Fork Matilija Canyon Hike

August 10, 2010

Saturday August 14th

Creek scene in Matilija Canyon

This trail is very well maintained and is mostly in the shade.   Its very senic and  follows the creek past several swimming holes.  We will be following the historic stage coach route, parts of which are still visible today.  This is not a strenuous hike and is approximately 5 miles round trip.  It is family and dog friendly.  We will have lunch at upper Matilija camp ground and plan on a swim or two on the way back out.   We will meet a Nordhoff H.S at 8am and carpool to the trail head.  We should be back by 1:00pm.  As usual bring hat, sunscreen, dress in layers, comfortable hiking shoes, sack lunch and LOTS of water.

Anacapa Island kayak trip part 2

July 15, 2010 Leave a Comment

Saturday August 21st. Join us on this exquisite journey.     We will travel across the channel in our own charted boat .  The sea life is thriving on this journey across the channel and we may even see some of the 28 species of whales and dolphins.   Once we arrive at the island we will start kayaking where we left off on our last trip.  We will be heading south, concentrating on some of the largest caves the island has to offer.  We will then kayak through the famous arch and visit the Northern Fur Seal rookery on the back side of the island.  Anacapa Island has the largest Brown Pelican Rookery in the United States which we will also visit.

We are  excited about working with Blue Ocean Kayaks on making this one of  our best trips ever. Please visit Blue Ocean’s web sit  www.blueoceankayaking.com and check out the details of the price, view their new boat and sign up for this trip.  You will also need to reserve your spot with me in advance as space for this trip is limited.

Things you should bring;  A change of cloths for the trip back and cloths to kayak in, (wet suits work well if you have one).  Snacks for the kayaks as well as lunch.  This is a full day.  You will be able to keep food on the boat,  so a small cooler is OK.  Bring lots of water and if you bring a camera, wrap it in a water proof bag or zip lock bag or 2.  I recommend bike gloves for your hands, a good hat and sunscreen as well.  If you have questions please contact us at  robert@goojai.com or susan@goojai.com Roberts cell (805)798-2810 / Susan’s cell (805)701-0221.

Matilija Falls Hike

October 29, 2009

Sunday,July 22nd.

img_0733 Please join us on our First annual David Bury memorial  Hike into the Matilija Canyon.  We will honor our friend David Bury by visiting one of the places he truly Loved…Matilija Falls.  We will  hike to  Swimming Holes and Majestic Water falls.  This scenic trail follows the beautiful Matilija Creek.   This time of year the temperature can be unpredictable so dress in layers.  There are several river crossings with boulder hopping along the way so we categorized this hike as one of our NO WIMP HIKES.  This means, no kids or dogs, (really tough) unless they are hardy trail kids/ dogs.  (This time of year the sand and rocks heat up and can burn the bottom of dogs feet.)  Please contact us if you have any questions concerning your ability to do this hike.  The approximate distance is 10 miles out and back.  Although this hike is challenging it is one you won’t want to miss.  Absolutely Beautiful!

We meet at Nordhoff H.S parking lot in Ojai 8am, July 22nd then carpool to the trail head.  Plan on at least 6-8 hrs.

Things you will need for this hike.
